The barman’s wisdom

Here are some rules of thumb for judging character that I learnt from Paul the barman.

If he is dressed to the nines, nice suit, fancy shoes and all, don’t trust him. Have him pay the bill before he “goes to the toilet”.

If he talks big and has kizungu mingi. He is a scam.

If he speaks the Lingua, buzz words and clever quotes. Don’t touch. Not even with a ten-foot pole.

If he gives you long tales, run. He is trying to fleece you.

If they look like a perfect couple, their relatioship is messier than your favorite political demagogues’ marriage of convenience.

But if he is rough around the edges, is a straight shooter, doesn’t oversell and has the credentials.
That’s your guy.
