The hermit and the young man

A story is told of a young man who met a hermit. The young man lived a good life, made good money and enjoyed the luxuries of life.  The hermit lived a recluse life in a cave.

The young man after seeing the hermit, sympathized with him for giving up the luxuries of life in exchange for an ascetic life.

But the hermit in the other hand, sympathized with the young man for giving up joy and bliss in exchange for the luxuries of life.

The point to is to understand what one is giving up. It’s about knowing the trade-off.

The luxuries of life and bliss are not necessarily mutually exclusive. But they are definitely not the same.

As the good book says, what’s the point of gaining the whole world and losing one’s soul.

Life is life
