Life is a traveling circus, and we are all performers.
A look at our social media feed reveals as much.
We are often either trying to display opulence or virtue.
Our flattering photos, clever remarks or wise sayings are meant to impress a real or imagined audience.
Our thespian instincts are nurtured at a very young age when we learn that a good performance earns us approval and moves up the status ladder.
Even when we retreat from the public, we do not escape the omnipresent eye of the audience.
Willy nilly, we are always pandering to an audience and we have no choice but to put on a show.
But we can choose our audience.
