On Changing the World

A human being claims to want to change the world. But who really needs to change?

When flying airplanes, one is instructed to make sure that he puts on his oxygen mask before trying to help others.

One cannot give what he does not have can he? Can a drowning man save another from drowning?

But a human being is a clever creature. He likes looking at everything except that which is right infront of him.

We set for ourselves lofty goals and high ideals to live up to. But we don’t want to deal with the important task of putting our house in order.

We want world peace. But are at war with ourselves.

We want world justice. But are unjust to ourselves.

A human being has no appetite for self-examination. He only salivates at the spectacle of the world.

He keeps himself busy with the trivial matters of the world, while his house is on fire.

Like my high school teacher used to say, he minors in majors and majors in minors.

He likes fairytales and abhors the practical.

He looks at the distant and avoids the immediate.

A man could literally be on the verge of death. But he will carry placards and picket against the war in Kazakhstan.

One needs to be honest with himself.

Does he want to change the world? Or to change himself?

Does one want to end world suffering? Or the suffering within himself?

Life is life
